Pace University was established in 1906 by Charles Ashford Pace and Homer St. Clair Pace. They were both CPAs and pioneers in the field.

The school was relocated to Lower Manhattan and renamed Pace Institute.
Pace Institute grew across the country, offering business law and accountancy courses in different US cities.

Two years apart, the brothers died in the early 1940s. Robert S. Pace was the son of Homer St. Clair Pace. In 1947, Pace Institute was granted college status by the New York State Board of Regents. The school was soon known as Pace College.
The New York Tribune Building was torn down in 1966 to make way for One Pace Plaza. The petition of Pace College to be granted university status by the New York State Board of Regents was approved in 1973.
