Students can apply to multiple colleges at once, but they must follow certain guidelines and limitations. Some colleges and programs offer “upper-level” programs that start later than the first year. Students who are interested in these programs can apply for preferred admission.

If granted, they will be automatically transferred to an upper-level program in a subsequent year. You can wait to apply if you aren’t sure if you want to join one of these programs.

Every program has an application process that U-M students may go through. These colleges offer preferred admission and require additional application components.

Michigan received 83,029 first-year applications. These applications were submitted by 16,235 people, which resulted in an acceptance rate of 18.2 percent.

This is lower than the 26% admission rate for 2019-20. From a pool of 65.021 applicants, 16,974 students were admitted to the university in 2019-20.

University of Michigan GPA Requirements

Although many schools require a minimum GPA, this requirement is not mandatory for all applicants.

GPA is what matters. It’s the GPA that you need to have a chance at getting in. We look at the average GPA of current students to determine this.

The average GPA from the University of Michigan is 3.88.

SAT Score Choice Policy

Your school’s Score Choice policy is an important part of your testing strategy.

ACT Score Sending Policy

You have a significant advantage if you take the ACT over the SAT. This greatly affects your testing strategy.

When you send ACT scores, colleges have complete control over their tests. You can take 10 tests and send only your highest score. This is in contrast to the SAT, where you must send all of your test results.

This means you have more opportunities than you might think to increase your ACT score. You should take the ACT as often as possible to meet the school’s ACT requirement. Once you are satisfied with your final score, you can send it to all schools.

Scholarships

Let me be honest. The University of Michigan is expensive. In-state students spent more than $31,000 on tuition and fees in the last school year. Students from out-of-state spent twice as much.

U of M offers a variety of scholarships that can be used to help you lower your tuition costs and not compromise the quality of your education. Most students are automatically eligible for scholarships by simply submitting.

These scholarships include the Detroit Promise Scholarship and the High Achieving Individually Leader (HAIL), which are sent to students who meet the requirements.

Special merit scholarships are also available through the university. The Bell Scholarship is a $10,000/year award to first-year science-related students at Michigan.

Stamps Scholarship winners receive full tuition coverage. This award is given to outstanding students with leadership qualities and community service.

Several scholarships are available to athletes participating in division one programs at the school.

How to Assess Whether Applying to Michigan is even worth the $75 application fee?

If you have the academic qualifications, it is okay to apply to Michigan. Even the most brilliant and talented applicants need to have a backup plan. Residents of the state have more advantages than non-residents, as their admission rate is approximately twice that of residents.
